EastGate Records (EGRL) is a Nigerian major record label best known for its numerous recordings of rhythm and blues, rock, jazz, afro-beat and Hip pop.
Its operation in the industry has earned it a reputation as one of the most important Nigerian recording labels with global best practice, discipline, and an inclination to discovering and developing talents of all ages, specializing in Jazz, R&B, rock, hip-pop, and African pop amongst others.
Our Label
The founders of EastGate Records are Mmaduabuchi Obi as its Chairman and Engr. Mmaduka Obi as the Executive Director. The motive for this investment: EastGate Records is their passion for good music and human capital development.
The label is uniquely structured to create an environment for talent-creativity and business. EGRL is a business with wherewithal, ergo has installed state of the art paraphernalia for its firm with efficacious labour force.
The label is venturing into distribution, marketing and multimedia which makes it unique in the African continent.

A&R (ARTISTE AND REPERTOIRE)
The A&R department is often considered the most glamorous department at the record label. This is because A&R oversees discovering new talents.
In EASTGATE RECORDS our A&R team of experts work hand in hand with the artistes that the label “sign”. The team roles include – assisting with song selection, choosing the people that will produce the album then deciding where the album will be recorded.
The staff in this department work as a link between the recording artiste and the other departments of EASTGATE RECORDS.
ART DEPARTMENT
This department supervises all the artwork that goes along with producing an Album. This includes CD cover art, advertisements and displays at music stores.
ARTISTE DEVELOPMENT
This department is responsible for planning the career of artistes who are signed onto EASTGATE RECORDS. It promotes and publicizes the artiste over the course of their career with the label. EGRL have come to see artistes as brands in EGRL and has devised means for proper artiste branding (for both music and endorsements).
LABEL LIAISON
We have a small group of people who serves as the liaison between EASTGATE RECORDS and Distribution Companies. The label liaison also helps to decide when to release an album and when the album should be first launched.
LEGAL DEPARTMENT
This department is responsible for the entire contract that is made between the company and artiste, as well as contracts between the record label and other companies.
Any legal issue that arises goes through this department.
MARKETING DEPARTMENT
This department creates overall marketing plan for every album that EASTGATE RECORDS will release. It helps coordinate the plans of promotion, sales and publicity departments.
NEWS & MEDIA DEPARTMENT
This department is in charge of dealing with the newer aspects of the music business, including producing and promoting of music videos for the artiste. In addition, this department is often responsible for helping an artiste create a presence on the internet. It also deals with the new technologies in which artistes can stream music and music videos through the internet.
PROMOTION DEPARTMENT
This department’s aim is to make sure that our artiste is being played on the radio. It must get artiste new songs on the radio in order to ensure the future success of the record label. This department makes sure that all the other departments are communicating the best way to sell the artiste to the public. The promotion department also tries to get videos played on TV channels.
PUBLICITY
This group is responsible for getting the word out about a new or established artiste in our label. It arranges for articles to be written in newspapers and magazines. They also deal with radio and television coverage of the artiste. For artistes who have their own independent publicists, help coordinate publicity with this department to ensure brand efficiency and harmony with label’s ideologies.
SALES DEPARTMENT
This department oversees the retail aspect of the record business. It works with the record store chains and other music stores to get new albums onto retailers’ shelves. The sales department often coordinates these efforts with the promotion and publicity departments.
BUSINESS AFFAIRS
The department deals with all business dynamics of the label. It takes care of bookkeeping, payroll and general finances.
